DCJ Mwilu secures release with Sh5 million bond

Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu was on August 28 released on a Ksh5 million bond after being arraigned in court over abuse of office charges.

Lady Justice Mwilu had earlier been arrested at the Supreme Court and charged with abuse of office,forgery and willful failure to pay taxes.

DCJ Mwilu was arrested after the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) flagged large amounts of money being transacted in accounts held at Imperial Bank which is now under receivership.

It was alleged that Mwilu used her office as a Judge of the Court of Appeal to unlawfully grant herself a benefit of Ksh 12 million.

The Deputy Chief Justice was charged alongside Stanley Muluvi Kiima, an advocate.

The two who appeared before Chief magistrate Lawrence Mugambi were ordered to appear before the court on Wednesday, August 29 since official working hours had already lapsed.

The former Court of Appeal judge is being represented by Siaya Senator James Orengo and a host of other lawyers including John Khaminwa and Okongo Omogeni.
