KTN News anchor Betty Kyalo has hinted she is proceeding on a mini vacation ahead of her surprise move to K24.

The Flair by Betty saloon CEO posted a photo on Instagram after getting a henna tatoo which she captioned with the new revelation even after assuring her fans she is still at KTN.  She is, however, serving notice.

Kyalo’s exit is the biggest blow to the Standard Group-owned media house, which also lost its managing editor Joe Ageyo, news anchor Yvonne Okwara and reporter Mashirima Kapombe to rival station Citizen TV.

Crime and Investigations reporter Dennis Onsarigo has also exited after landing a job as Director of Communications in the Taita Taveta county government.

Kyalo has been one of KTN’s mainstay anchors and her departure is likely to further hit its viewership ratings in a big way.

Her flexible style of switching into sheng or Kiswahili when necessary during interview sessions has endeared her to viewers turned off by the ubiquitous English-only spitting anchors. It appears many of her fans have chosen to ignore her troubled social life, which climaxed with a divorce from NTV anchor Dennis Okari, followed by a short-term dalliance with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and recently, a fallout with a business partner which brought out her dramatic side.

Besides, she has a huge following on Social Media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), an asset for a news anchor in an era where the mobile phone converges with TV in the evening. A good portion of this fanbase could switchover with her, but whether they stay with K24 will largely depend on the overall quality of news and other programmes.

As a sign of things to come for KTN, one of her fans, Joseph Mudema sought to know whether she would still anchor KTN’s Friday Briefing news bulletin to which she responded in the affirmative.

“Show tunayo ama umehama ?” he posed to which she responded:  “Tunayo.”
