Kakamega County Government has spent Sh309 million in the first phase of refurbishing and upgrading Bukhungu stadium.

The County Director of Sports Mr James Muchiri said they intend to upgrade the facility to international standards.

The works that have so far been done include the construction of a 2, 500n capacity VIP dais that consists of a state-of the-art guests’ lounge, change rooms, offices as well as a kitchen.

Workers are putting the final touches on the dais as the facility will be hosting the Confederation of East and Central African Football Association (CECAFA) tournament matches in five weeks.

The tournament kicks off on November 26 to December 9 with Kisumu and Nakuru counties co-hosting.

He said they are working round the clock to ensure they successfully play the host to the high profile regional soccer tourney.
