Kenya Paralympics Team Gets Sh10 Million Backup

Safaricom PLC has announced a Ksh10 million sponsorship for the Kenya Paralympics Team, to support them in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. The sponsorship includes cash support and in-kind support.

The in-kind support package comprises financial literacy and media training for the athletes. Additionally, the in-kind sponsorship includes airtime for data and connectivity, and branded merchandise.

Safaricom CEO, Mr Peter Ndegwa, said the company is dedicated to fostering sports in Kenya, adding that Safaricom has a long-standing history of supporting sports in Kenya, recognising the significant role it plays in national development and unity.

In addition to financial support, Safaricom organised a comprehensive financial literacy and media training programme to empower athletes in with financial management skills, and effective media engagement skills. The session was designed to provide valuable insights and practical knowledge that will help individual athletes grow their incomes and build their personal brands.

“The journey of our Paralympics team is a testament to the resilience, dedication, and spirit of our athletes,” Mr Ndegwa said. “They embody the true essence of sportsmanship and serve as an inspiration to all of us. Supporting our athletes extends beyond just their training and competition. We believe that equipping them with skills for financial management and media engagement is crucial for their overall success and well-being.”

Mr Bhaveet Chudasama, the Vice President of Kenya National Paralympic Committee, said: “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Safaricom for organising and facilitating this impactful event. They have been one of our key partners for years; their support extends not only to the Paralympics but also to other significant local and international races in the country, where they actively contribute to nurturing young talent.”
