An image shared in the Facebook group “World Cityscapes & Skyscrapers” indicating that it is of Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega is false.

The image was shared on August 25, 2023, and captioned “Bukhungu Stadium Kenya” by Facebook user Karani James King’i.

However, a reverse image search on Google shows that the image shared is of Principality Stadium (formerly Millenium Stadium) in, Wales, the United Kingdom, the home ground for Cardiff City Football Club. The club plays in the second tier of the English football league system.

A similar image is on sale on British stock photography agency Alamy, showing exactly the same features as the one shared, claiming it is Bukhungu Stadium.

Images of Bukhungu Stadium published in March 2023 by Nation do not show features similar to the image shared on Facebook.

Bukhungu Stadium is yet to be completed, and in August 2023, the Kakamega County government announced that it had allocated Ksh570 million for the Stadium’s upgrade.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa shared an image of Bukhungu Stadium on his verified Facebook account on August 25, 2023, announcing that the National Government will inject Ksh2.9 billion to complete the stadium.

Held a meeting this morning with the Sports CS Hon. Ababu Namwamba, to deliberate on the collaboration between the national and county governments aimed at finalizing the construction of Bukhungu Stadium. We agreed on an implementation plan, that will see the National Government inject Ksh2.9 billion to the completion of the stadium,” Barasa stated.

The image shared by Karani James King’i on the Facebook group “World Cityscapes & Skyscrapers”, is, therefore, not of Bukhungu Stadium.
