This X account posting content as Stanbic Bank Uganda and asking customers for their National Identity Numbers (NINs) is FAKE. X is formerly Twitter.
The picture on the account’s profile has some similarities with Stanbic Bank Uganda’s branding. The bio section describes the account as the bank’s official page providing online customer care support.
In one of the posts, the account asks customers for their NINS to update their bank accounts. In another post, customers are asked to send messages through the provided contact numbers for queries.
PesaCheck verified the registration details of the provided mobile number and found that it is not registered as Stanbic, but as Docus Katushabe.
Kenneth Agutamba, the reputation and communication manager at Stanbic Bank Uganda, told Pesacheck via WhatsApp that the bank’s official X handle is verified.
“I can confirm this is not our page or message. It is a phishing account which we have reported to X and hoping that they kick it off the platform,” Agutamba wrote.
Stanbic Bank Uganda also flagged the account as fake in a 22 July 2023 post.
PesaCheck looked into this X account posting content as Stanbic Bank Uganda and asking customers to share their National Identity Numbers (NINs) and found it to be FAKE.
