With vast interests in real estate, hospitality, media, manufacturing, transport and agriculture among other sectors, the family of the late former President Daniel Arap Moi is one of Kenya’s wealthiest. Former Senator Gideon Moi, who is also his political heir, has been central in controlling the family purse since his father’s passing in 2020.

Lake Bogoria Spa & Resort
Less than 10 minutes away from Lake Bogoria, the luxurious Lake Bogoria Spa and Resort describes itself as the only resort in Kenya with a naturally heated pool. It utilizes the iconic hot springs of Lake Bogoria. There are an estimated 200 hot springs around Lake Bogoria with water temperatures from 39 to 98.5C.
The hotel also features modern fittings, luxurious rooms and conference facilities. Documents at the Registrar of Companies indicate that Philip Moi co-owned the hotel with his father.
Merica Hotel
Located in Nakuru, Merica Hotel is one of the Rift Valley city’s most popular hotels. The three-star hotel includes 89 luxury rooms, four junior suites and a luxurious executive suite.
It also features conference facilities. The hotel opened its doors in 2000.
Intercontinental Hotel
The 389-room InterContinental Hotel is located in the capital, Nairobi and is considered one of the country’s iconic hotels. Sovereign Group, a company linked to the Mois, is the largest individual local investor in the hotel with a 19.2 percent stake.
The Intercontinental Hotels Corporation Group, listed in both the UK and the USA, has a 33.8 percent stake in the hotel group. After initially announcing plans to exit the Kenyan market at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, due to the depressed economic environment, the Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) made a u-turn on the decision in 2022 after signing franchise agreements to expand its portfolio in the region.
The group signed franchise agreements with three properties in Nairobi including Holiday Inn Two Rivers Mall and The Fairview Nairobi.
