After getting promoted to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) this season, up from the NSL, Kenya Police FC are making a statement with their seemingly countless new signings.
Their latest catch? Harun Shakava, Captain of cash-strapped local giants Gor Mahia FC. Kenya Police FC CEO Chris Onguso confirmed Shakava’s signing on Thursday, January 20.
He further stated that Shakava would be drafted into the National Police Service (NPS). The Betika-sponsored football team is primarily backed by the NPS.
Shakava’s signing isn’t their first in the January transfer window. They had already completed the signings of Job Ochieng from Mathare United, David Owino from KCB and Eric Juma from Kariobangi Sharks.
The young goalkeeper Ochieng was offered a four-year deal while Owino and Juma reportedly signed one-year and two-year deals respectively.

These new signings follow a spending spree that roped in some big names in the pre-season transfer window – among them former Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards men Clifton Miheso and John Mark Makwatta respectively.
They also signed experienced Kenyan international Musa Mohammed. Harambee Stars midfielder Francis Kahata has been training with them in recent days and could yet be offered a deal to join the side coached by legend John Bobby Ogolla.
Kenya Police FC is among parastatal and corporate-backed teams that have managed to stay above the water in a period that has seen Kenyan football clubs struggle. Federation wrangles and the Covid-19 pandemic contributed to further turmoil and dysfunction.
The FKF Caretaker Committee has since taken on the the running of Kenyan football affairs, including the league in which Kenya Police currently sit 9th with 20 points from 15 matches.
The club have set their sights high and are looking to break into the top 3 this season. They are currently only six points off Gor Mahia in 3rd.
