Content creators and filmmakers have a new avenue to share their work with the world, as DSTV’s Maisha Magic Movies welcomes pitches and ready-made films for commissioning and licensing.

This was disclosed on Friday, March 4 as DSTV brought stakeholders together in Nairobi to reveal big plans for the revamped Maisha Magic Movies channel.

The channel has been made available on all DSTV packages, with the pay TV firm citing high demand for local content.

Barbara Kambogi who heads up the Maisha Magic Poa, Bongo and Movies channels noted that filmakers could, via the M-Net website, submit their pitches or ready-made films for commissioning and licensing.

They also announced the 45 movies to feature in the Maisha Magic Movies Festival – 15 each from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania respectively.

Many of the films were commissioned by M-Net. Among Kenyan films featured are Zuena, Stow Away and Acting Ndio Action.

The movies span different genres, from comedy to drama and horror.

Maisha Magic Movies, Channel 141 on DSTV, was launched in June 2021. It targets viewers across East Africa.

According to DSTV, the channel was created to plug the deficit of quality hyper-local content made for East Africans. The revamp of the channel will see local filmmakers backed as the firm doubles down on its strategy.

Kyambogi urged creators across East Africa to submit their pitches and films, stating that they would review all applications on the M-Net website and respond appropriately.

She noted the impact of Covid-19 on the creative sector, stating that the Maisha Magic Movies channel was offering a timely boost for the sector.
