Alfred Otieno loves to talk. And when he does, he wants to take his time to engage the other person – explain a point and find the right words for the conversation. He will gesticulate, punch the air and even stamp his feet midway. For Otieno, talking is an art that needs no hurry in terms of talk-time.

“Talking is the second most intimate action among humans,” says Mr Otieno, the 33-year-old who calls himself a small contractor. “You got to make it worth it and give it that personal touch.”

In face-to-face conversation, that is easy to achieve, but a mobile phone call can often turn into a very official and brief social intercourse, because call time is limited and network operators are always billing. So choosing the right network operator, and most importantly the best tariff, can bring a whole difference and experience in social and business calling – replacing worry and hurry with confidence and surety.

A father of two, Otieno has a small office in Nairobi’s CBD which looks more of a photocopying café, where he plies his business. He studied law at Moi University but fate pushed him into supplies where he sources for small tenders in various organisations, including government.

His focus on small items such as pens, tissues, cleaning and stationery has worked well for him, weaning him off legal practice and putting him in the league of upward mobile Kenyans minting good money at the bottom of the tendering pyramid.

Otieno needs a mobile tariff that would cost him self and offer him convenience – he must punch the air or just laugh for almost a minute, you know.

For Otieno and millions like him, finding such a plan can be as easy as switching to the Go Monthly plan provided by the Simple, Transparent and Honest network. Responding to the need for an affordable and easy to manage plan, Safaricom has consolidated the PostPay and All-in-One monthly plans under ‘Go Monthly’ , which offers lower prices and more value.

Safaricom has reduced the pricing of its monthly plans, providing even greater value and delivering a great experience. “By consolidating our monthly plans, we seek to simplify our product offering while enabling our customers to enjoy a digital lifestyle in an affordable manner,” says Mr Peter Ndegwa, CEO Safaricom PLC.

The revised pricing will see the Go Monthly 1K plan go for Ksh1,000, down from Ksh1050; the 2K plan will go for Ksh2,000 down from Ksh2,100; the 3K plan will go for Ksh3,000 down from Ksh3,150; the 5K plan will go for Ksh5,000 down from 5,200; while the 10K plan will go for Ksh10,000, down from Ksh10,430.

All Go Monthly customers will enjoy free 2GB YouTube every month, while customers on the 5k and 10k plans will enjoy unlimited data capped at 45GB and 100GB respectively. Go Monthly customers will be able to use their minutes to call across all local networks as well as China, India, USA, and Canada.

From as low as Ksh500 per month, customers who prefer minutes or internet only can also enjoy the minutes or data-only Go Monthly plans respectively.

Customers like Otieno who have many calls to make and also utilize data a lot, now have more control of their spend, get value for their money and on worry-free monthly connections. In fact, there’s enough to choose from based on one’s needs: data-only monthly plans, minutes-only monthly and integrated monthly plans available on both pre-pay (All-in-One) or post-pay.

Diana Naibey, a teacher in Eldoret, tops up her airtime daily – some time more than once – to buy the best minutes bundle on offer. Sometimes there isn’t a good enough offer or she even forgets and calls using normal airtime. “It is tedious and can be annoying when you load 100-shilling airtime and forget to buy minutes and data bundle and realise it’s all gone in a short while when you make a few calls,” Ms Naibey, who loves watching videos on YouTube and Tiktok, says.

With the new monthly plan, Ms Naibey can reduce on the time used to load airtime and buy bundles to just once in a month. Moreover, it will be way cheaper for her to buy a monthly package compared to a daily dose, do may not meet her needs as a professional, mother and church official.

With Go Monthly, Otieno, at the other end, one can now add more art to his phone calls – he can laugh longer, talkmore and even sing the whole Happy Birthday song to his friends and loved ones. A businessman can negotiate more on phone, and do virtual meeting hustle-free, besides sending many text messages.
