Kenyan amateur bakers have the chance to win a fully paid two week trip to France. This opportunity has been made possible by Unga Limited, who launched the Great Kenyan Bake off, an exciting and entertaining competition to find Kenya’s best amateur baker. The show is the first of its kind in Kenya, and only the second in Africa, and will air on KTN home for 10 weeks from September, 2019.

Unga Limited, the leading wheat and maize manufacturer in the country, is in the middle of promoting a culture of baking by generating interest while empowering bakers with a platform to sharpen and showcase their skills. The Baking culture in Kenya has been evolving and Kenyans have acquired a new taste and style with the kind of pastries they prefer.

Unga Limited is taking the lead in supporting the growing culture in Kenya by giving bakers a platform where they can showcase different process and techniques that can be used to bring about such a variety of products.

In the show, a group of amateur bakers will compete against each other and will be judged on their skills at making cakes, breads, pastries and desserts of all kinds. Each week, one contestant will be eliminated until the finale when Kenya’s next top baker will be announced.

The lucky winner will enjoy a two- week fully paid trip to France, a country whose long standing history with pastry goes back centuries, where they will undergo baking and pastry training with top drawer chefs. In addition, the winner will undergo a 2month apprenticeship at a local bakery upon return to Kenya that will allow them to sharpen their business skills. The winner will also be awarded with kitchen equipment worth a whooping Ksh 150,000 and finally get the opportunity to run their very own bakery.

“We would like to inspire every amateur baker to apply for the show and stand a chance to win all these great prizes. We believe in local talent and appreciate how much growth there has been in the baking industry and that is why we launched the show,” said Unga Group Managing Director, Nick Hutchinson.
