Jubilee Party Secretary General and Cabinet Secretary without portfolio Raphael Tuju has been airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment after an operation at Kijabe Hospital.
The CS sustained serious injuries after being involved in a grissly road accident at Magina on the Nairobi- Nakuru Highway on Wednesday morning while en-route to Kabarak to attend the burial of the late President Daniel Arap Moi.
Citizen TV quoted Kijabe Mission Hospital CEO Dr Ken Muma saying that the minor operation conducted on Tuju had put him in better shape for air travel.
The chief executive also said that the hospital had received 18 patients involved in the accident saying that they “had sustained minor injuries”.
Accompanying Tuju during the flight were Cabinet Secretaries Joe Mucheru and Amina Mohamed.
Accident
According to witnesses, the accident occured after a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) moved to the lane where Tuju’s Toyota Land Cruiser was being driven and attempted to overtake another car triggering a head on collision with Tuju’s vehicle.
Tuju reportedly sustained chest and abdominal injuries. He was seated in the back left of the car.
The CS’s driver suffered a fractured hand while his bodyguard suffered a fractured foot.
The police report indicates that all survivors but one sustained minor injuries.
The matatu driver has been put on life support.
