The annual ranking of Kenya’s best high schools, based on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination performance, has been released. Nearly five schools from Kiambu feature among the top 10 in the entire country.

This highly anticipated list, published by Business Today, highlights the leading public and private high schools nationwide. It follows the recent announcement of KCSE 2024 results by the Ministry of Education’s Cabinet Secretary, Mr Julius Migos Ogamba. Schools are ranked primarily based on the mean grade average in exams administered by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) at the end of the four-year secondary education cycle.

Defying expectations, Merishaw School, a private boys’ high school in Isinya, Kajiado County, secured the top position overall. With a mean score of 10.57, Merishaw outperformed traditionally dominant schools such as Alliance Boys and Alliance Girls. This was its first KCSE attempt, with less than 100 candidates, and achieved a 100% transition to university. Its lowest grade was a C+ (51 points). The school recorded seven grade As, while all remaining candidates earned A-.
