Kenya won big at the 7th Annual World Golf Awards, where it was named Africa’s leading golf destination. The country beat out stiff competition from South Africa, Egypt and Morocco to rank at the top.
At the gala held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Karen Country Club in Nairobi was also named as the best golf course in Kenya. The Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort was named as the best golf resort in Kenya.
The annual awards celebrate and promote not just the sport itself but golf tourism and destinations as well.
Kenya Tourism Board (CEO) Betty Radier welcomed the news, even as she explained plans to further develop the country as a leading golf tourism destination.
“It is encouraging that we have developed golf and now the entire world knows us as the best destination in Africa.

“We have indeed made incredible strides and we can only get better. We aim to be the best in the world now that we have conquered Africa,” she stated.
She observed that, already, KTB worked to promote golf through the Magical Kenya Golf Open, which is part of the European tour.
KTB is also the activating agency for the Safari Golf Tour, which precedes the Magical Kenya Open tournament.
“As Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) we have had an association with golf for a long time now because we believe it has the ability to increase our tourism brand visibility globally thereby attracting tourists into the country.
“We will continue to be part of the sport to ensure it achieves greater goals,” Radier stated.
