Startimes to air FIBA 2019 World Cup

Startimes has announced that it will be the official broadcasting Satellite Television Provider of International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Cup 2019 that will be held in China.

The tournament, which will be held from August 31 to September 15 is expected to attract about 32 countries.

Speaking during Monthly Sports Personality Award, Startimes Regional Marketing Director Adrine Nsubuga said the top qualifiers of FIBA will automatically qualify for 2020 Summer Olympics.

Nsubuga further said that Startimes initiatives of awarding sports personality of the month was a way of giving back to the society and motivating the players.

“Our awards cut across every type of sporting activity not only basketball and last month’s winner was a ruby player,” he explained.

Nsubuga explained that it was good to see winners changing from one sport to another because it is a reflection of how well management of the disciplines that win every month are doing.

“We have rich content in sport and we want to use this initiative to create awareness that we have sports that are enthusiastic which players can join,” he added.

Nsubuga added that they want to be part of the community and their intention is to make community feel cared for besides products and services the company offers.

Sports Personality Committee Member, Daniel Wahome said Startimes initiative not only focuses on the players but it also has awards for the coaches.

“We are delighted for the Startimes support, we believe it is a good initiative,” Wahome noted.

Tyler Okari, a Kenya men’s national basketball team player, who was named this month’s award winner walked away with a 43 inch Startimes Television and Ksh 100, 000.

“We worked hard as a team and being awarded is quite encouraging,” Okari said.

Kenya men’s basketball team coach Cliff Owuor said the award means a lot to basketball fraternity and sports sector as a whole.

Owuor said Okari’s a very outstanding player and effective in the games and besides, he is the team’s vice captain.
