Standard Group has once again access to internet services by its staffers sparking uproar in the newsroom.

According to a memo from the IT team, beginning next Monday, there will be no access to social media sites, Facebook and YouTube, between 8am to 9pm.

The memo says the move is the result on increased internet usage as a result of an increase of business applications that are online based such as SuccessFactors, a HR management app,

The two will only be allowed during the stated times on need basis, and upon approval by the respective head of department.

This is the second time the media house is restricting internet access. In the first phase, the company stopped access to Whatsapp and other non-email Google products such as Google Drive.

Here is the latest memo:

Dear All,
As a result of increased internet usage, it has become necessary to manage its use in order to ensure smooth running of the business. This has been necessitated by the increase in business applications that are online based, e.g. Success Factors. There is therefore need to limit some applications and allow access only for business related cases. These restrictions will undergo reviews periodically and may change from time to time.
We already went through the first phase, and are now embarking on the second phase which will involve restricting usage of the following applications that consume most of the bandwidth:
1. YouTube
2. Facebook
These applications will be inaccessible on our network from Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm. These changes will be effected from Monday 16th July 2018.
Please note that these applications will only be allowed during the stated times on need basis, and upon approval by the respective head of department. In case you need to access these restricted applications, please send an approved email to [email protected]
For further queries, please contact the Service Desk on [email protected] or 2400/250
