Standard Group CEO Chaacha Mwita has resigned effective November 1st 2026, just 7 months after his substantive appointment in April. His reasons for leaving the job has not been disclosed neither has his successor named.

Mwita succeeded Marion Gathoga-Mwangi as Acting CEO in July 2025. She resigned from Standard Group on June 30th 2025 after being at the office for roughly one year.

Mwita’s resignation at Standard Group comes as the media house continues to experience a high leadership turnover, mounting losses, a suspended KSh 1.5 billion rights issue and unpaid government advertising bills.

Standard Group is one of the oldest media houses in East Africa, a mainstream outfit that is now faced with fierce competition from startups and numerous digital platforms, each competing for the reader’s eyeballs and ears.

Standard Group Board of Directors has, meanwhile, appointed Antony Ambaka, Tom Odongo and Elishah Njeru as Independent Non-Executive Directors. Kegode is an entrepreneur and company director with over 30-years’ experience in business leadership, corporate finance, regulatory compliance and strategic management in Kenya and the United States.

He founded and led East African Safari Air and currently directs private companies with interests in agribusiness, real estate and investment management. He holds qualifications in international law, finance, sociology and computer science from several institutions, including Harvard University and the University of New Hampshire.

His extensive experience in financial stewardship, governance, risk management and business continuity is expected to contribute valuable expertise to the Standard Group Board.

Odongo is an enterprise transformational leader with over 20-years of senior leadership and management experience. He brings deep expertise in investment strategy, organizational change, institutional leadership and cross border capital deployment, with a disciplined approach to governance, performance optimization and sustainable enterprise growth.

Tom holds an MBA degree in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi and is a qualified CPA and has served various boards in different sectors.
