Standard Chartered Bank Kenya is extending its premium banking services to the Coast with a new wealth management centre in Nyali, Mombasa, targeting clients seeking help with investments and financial planning.

The centre, known as a Priority Centre, will provide advice on investment planning, financing, wealth preservation and succession planning. Clients will also be able to explore international investment opportunities through the bank’s global network.

The expansion reflects Mombasa’s role as a commercial hub, with activity spanning trade, tourism, logistics and manufacturing. Standard Chartered Kenya Chief Executive Officer Birju Sanghrajka said the county’s economy, valued at more than Sh700 billion, was supporting demand for specialised financial services.

“Mombasa is an important economic hub for Kenya,” Sanghrajka said, adding that the scale and diversity of activity in the county showed its growing importance as a centre of wealth creation.

The facility is intended to bring wealth specialists closer to affluent customers outside Nairobi. Through relationship managers, clients can receive guidance on structuring investments, accessing financing and planning how assets will be managed or passed on to family members.

Edith Chumba, the bank’s Head of Wealth and Retail Banking for Kenya and East Africa, said clients needed support that covered more than growing their investments.

“As wealth grows, clients need financial advice that goes beyond investment to help them build, preserve and transfer wealth across generations,” Chumba said.

Succession planning can help families prepare for the transfer of assets, while wealth preservation advice may help clients manage financial risks. The bank has not publicly detailed the minimum wealth required to use the new centre or the investment products available there.

The opening comes as Kenya remains one of Africa’s private wealth markets. The Africa Wealth Report 2025, published by Henley & Partners with data from New World Wealth, estimated that Kenya had about 6,800 US-dollar millionaires as of June 2025. The figure is an estimate of people with investable wealth of at least US$1 million, rather than an official government count.

The report placed Kenya among the continent’s five largest millionaire markets, behind South Africa, Egypt, Morocco and Nigeria. Nairobi accounted for the largest share of the country’s residents, but the Nyali centre signals the bank’s effort to serve customers in other centres.

Standard Chartered’s move broadens its Priority Banking presence beyond the capital and gives affluent clients on the Coast a point of access to wealth advice and its international network.
