Veteran radio presenter Shaffie Weru has joined Homeboyz Radio as programmes controller.

Weru worked at Radio Africa for 14 years co-presenting the Big Breakfast show with Kalekye Mumo and lately Adelle Onyango before the latter quit last month to pursue personal interests.

There were reports that the two were sacked to pave ways for the station’s new catches, Kamene Goro and Andrew Kibe, who formerly co-presented NRG Breakfast Club. However, Weru said the claims were the work of haters, saying he had been on leave.

Kamene and Kibe are yet to go on air after their former employer moved to court accusing them of breaching contractual terms and secured an injunction.

Homeboyz general manager Somoina Kimojino welcomed him to the station, saying he had a wealth of experience on air

“He will be able to work with the team to improve our programming, work on creative ideas with the creative team to bring out the culture of HIP HOP and EPL in everything we do. We give him a warm welcome and look forward to improved station sound and programming to make HBR the no 1. Hip Hop Radio Station in Kenya,” Somoina said.

Weru started his media career at the Royal Media Services in 1998. He also served as a sports reporter and producer between 1998 and 2001.

He holds a Diploma in Mass Communication (Television and Radio Production) from Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC).

Last year, Weru was among media personalities linked to Switch TV.
