From scrap metal dealer to matatu owner

A 55-year-old entrepreneur is the winner of a brand new 29-seater Isuzu NPR matatu worth Ksh4.6 million in the just-concluded Shikilia Nganya Na Pilsner National Consumer promotion.

Gabriel Waithaka Kuria, who works as a scrap metal dealer in Gikomba drives away with a brand new Nganya in the three-month Pilsner promotion that has been rewarding thousands of loyal consumers across the country with airtime, smartphones, home theatres, motorbikes and assorted merchandise.

The brand new matatu was handed over by KBL Head of Beer Janice Kemoli, at a function held at K1 Bar and Restaurant in Parklands.

“This campaign has captured the hearts and minds of consumers in Kenya with many proud to Shikilia Uzito with Pilsner. We will continue to engage with our consumers and they should expect exciting campaigns in future,” said Ms Kemoli.

A family man, Waithaka has been a regular participant in the promotion and could not hide his excitement when he received the call from KBL team informing him that he was the grand-prize winner.

“I cannot describe the joy in my heart. This great turning point has given my whole life – and family – a new dimension. This is the first time I have won a prize of such a magnitude. I still can’t believe that this moment is real and not a dream,” Waithaka said in exhilaration.

“This is a great opportunity for me. Life has been challenging but with this Nganya from Pilsner, I foresee a brighter future. I intend to do the best in ensuring that income from this matatu supplements what I am already getting from my business work,” he said.
