Safaricom moves more shares than entire banking sector at NSE

Trading at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) ticked up Ksh45 million on Tuesday to close at Ksh385 million up from 340 million on Monday.

Volumes of shares traded at the bourse also adjusted up to 16.9 million against 14.6 million posted on Monday.

NSE20 share index shaved off 10.18 points to stand at 2829.65. All Share Index (NASI) was down 0.38points to settle at 146.78. The NSE 25 Share index ticked down 9.70 points to stand at 3691.63.

Safaricom was the day’s biggest mover with 12 million shares valued at Ksh 219 million changing hands at between Ksh 24.00 and Ksh 24.50 which represented 75.57% of the day’s traded value.

The Banking Sector on the other hand had shares worth Ksh 58 million transacted which accounted for 15.07% of the day’s traded value.

Equity Group Holdings moved 666,000 shares valued at Ksh 25.9 million at between Ksh 35.50 and Ksh 36.75. KCB Group whose trading price held steady at Ksh 38.00 moved 506,000 shares valued at Ksh 19.3 million.

The Agriculture Sector had shares worth Ksh 3.2 million transacted which represented 0.84% of the day’s traded value.

Williamson Tea whose trading price was unchanged at Ksh 160.00 saw 20,000 shares valued at Ksh.3.2 million transacted.

The Energy & Petroleum Sector had shares worth Ksh 10.8 million traded& accounted for 2.82% of the day’s turnover.

Kengen lost 0.05% to Ksh 7.20 with 677,000 shares valued at 4.8 million traded. Kenya Power & Lighting moved 1.1 million shares valued at Ksh 4.7 million and closed the day at Ksh 3.95.

The Insurance Sector had shares worth Ksh 5.9 million transacted which represented 1.55% of the day’s traded value.

Jubilee Holdings remained stable at Ksh 425.00 moving 6,000 shares valued at Ksh 2.5 million.

The manufacturing and Allied sector had shares worth 11.2 million traded & accounted for 2.90% of the day’s traded value.

East African Breweries exchanged 64,000 shares valued at Ksh10.8 million at between Ksh 168.00 and Ksh 170.00.

The Bond Market had bonds worth Ksh 2 billion transacted.
