Rugby fans have a reason to celebrate as the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has confirmed that the popular Safari 7s tournament will be back at the iconic Nyayo National Stadium later this year.
The 2025 edition of the tournament is scheduled to run from October 10 to 12 in Nairobi, bringing together top rugby sevens teams from around the globe.
The announcement was made on Thursday, August 7, by KRU, which expressed its excitement about taking the tournament back to a venue that holds a special place in the hearts of many Kenyan rugby enthusiasts.
“The Safari 7s tournament will be held from 10th to 12th October and will feature age-grade category, Women’s category, and Men’s category, as has been the tradition,” part of the official statement read.
Adding;
“It is expected to bring in different teams from all over the world competing for the prestigious Robin Cahill Trophy.”

This year’s tournament marks a return to Nyayo Stadium for the first time in four years. The last time the venue hosted the event was in 2021, when Kenya’s Shujaa team thrilled home fans by beating Germany in a memorable final.
The event was later moved to Machakos in 2024, where both Shujaa and Costa Blanca Ladies were crowned champions in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
The 2025 edition will be the fourth time the 35,000-seater Nyayo Stadium hosts the Safari 7s. The venue previously welcomed the tournament in 2011 and 2012, following an increase in fan turnout that had overwhelmed the traditional RFUEA Grounds.
With spacious seating and modern facilities, Nyayo is expected to offer fans and teams a world-class experience.
The Safari 7s is one of Africa’s most prestigious rugby sevens tournaments and has consistently attracted top-tier teams from across the world.
It also serves as a platform to showcase local and regional talent, especially in the age-grade and women’s divisions.
The timing of the announcement comes when the local rugby scene is buzzing with activity, thanks to the ongoing National Sevens Circuit. The return to Nyayo is expected to boost fan interest and attract even more international participation.
As anticipation builds ahead of October, KRU has promised a well-organised event that reflects the growth and potential of Kenyan rugby on the global stage.
