Raila Odinga’s campaign is in talks with renowned Public Relations (PR) practitioner Gina Din Kariuki as they recruit new faces to steer the former Prime Minister’s fifth stab at the Presidency.
Her firm Gina Din Corporate Communications was acquired in 2019 by Edelman Global Communications. Din has worked with many of the biggest brands in the country on their most memorable campaigns – including Safaricom and Barclays Bank (now Absa).
The firm notably also handled PR during former US President Barack Obama’s trip to Kenya in 2019.
The Odinga Campaign Board chaired by Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi is keen on roping her in to ramp up communications, publicity and media relations for the Azimio la Umoja coalition. They are reportedly at the tail end of talks expected to result in a contractual agreement.

The CEO of the Campaign Secretariat is International Monetary Fund (IMF) consultant Elizabeth Meyo.
The move comes barely a fortnight since Raila’s main opponent for the Presidency, Deputy President William Ruto, made a high-profile communications appointment with former Citizen anchor Hussein Mohammed named as the Head of Communications for his campaign.
Din isn’t the only person the Raila team is looking to bring on board.
Meyo confirmed the appointment of Ambassador Jane Waikenda as Head of Protocol. The role will make her central to the coordination of Azimio la Umoja events and Raila’s calendar leading up to the polls.
Head of Protocol job roles typically revolve around planning, logistics, security and etiquette at events.
The Azimio la Umoja outfit is to be officially registered and unveiled in coming weeks. Aside from Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee, other parties supporting the coalition include Democratic Action Party – Kenya (DAP-K), Party of National Unity (PNU), Muungano and Maendeleo Chap Chap.
