Raila Tosha and other moving quotes from NASA rally

Raila Odinga, National Super Alliiance (NASA) presidential candidate 2017.

Raila Odinga, as was widely expected, was today named the National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer at the coalition’s rally at Uhuru park.

Accepting the flag bearer’s position, the former prime minister said that history will repeat itself just as in 2002, when they formed the Narc Coalition that ousted KANU out of power. He will face off with Jubilee Party leader, President Uhuru Kenyatta who beat him in 2013 with a slim margin.

“It is honour to me for my co-principals to accept and say ‘Raila Tosha’,” he said, rekindling memories of 2002 when he endorsed Mwai Kibaki at the same venue using the same phrase.

“We shall have a transitional and a transformative government that will sweep away all the evils committed by the Jubilee government. My work will be done when we reach Canaan, and I will help my co-principals with the journey of transforming this country. We want to realize dream, held by the founders of this nation,” added Raila.

Making the announcement, Musalia Mudavadi, who will Premier Cabinet Secretary in a NASA government, said that a lot of sacrifices had to be made for the deal to be struck.

“We had to sacrifice, not for personal ambition but for Kenya and Kenyans. We almost fought, but I am glad that the phase one of our objective is done,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter who had the ball. It doesn’t matter whether I had the ball, but I have decided to pass it to a candidate at a vantage point to score,” said the excited Mudavadi.

Mudavadi announced that NASA will use the Bomas draft that gives space to the post of the Premier Cabinet Secretary with two deputies, the president and his deputy. In case NASA wins the August polls Bomet governor will take the position of the Deputy Premier Cabinet Secretary in charge of governance as his counterpart Moses Wetangula will be the Deputy Premier Cabinet Secretary in charge of the economy.

Raila’s running mate, Kalonzo Musyoka, who will be deputy president, said he had to make the sacrifice once more for the sake of this country.

“I said Kibaki Tosha, and that’s how we made history. I was ready to carry this Coalition’s flag, but for the sake of this country I sacrificed my ambitions. I am prepared even to be a sweeper in the NASA government provided the common mwananchi gets what he deserves. You(Kenyans) have to sacrifice so that we can save Kenya.”
