Public Works Principal Secretary Maryam Al Maawy is dead. The PS, who was seriously injured when al Shabaab militants hijacked her vehicle in Lamu in July, died while receiving treatment in South Africa.

Kenya Defence Forces and General Service Unit officers rescued her alongside five other people but she was seriously injured in the incident.

Five people, including her nephew, were killed in the attack. The militia took control of the PS’s vehicle, a Toyota Prado, with six occupants and sped off. However, on realising they were being pursued, they killed one of the persons on board and left the PS injured.
