After their 3-1 win over Wolves on Monday night, Chelsea caused a major shake-up in the Premier League standings for the 2024/25 season.

Chelsea’s goals came from Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke to secure the crucial three points needed to keep their EPL title hopes alive. Adarabioyo netted first at 24″ before Wolverhampton Wanderers’ defender Matt Doherty equalled 1-1 to halftime. Cucurella and Madueke scored in the 60th and 65th minutes, respectively.

This was the first win in four Premier League matches for the Blues, and it caused significant disruption in the top half of the EPL table, specifically affecting Manchester City, which sat in fourth position before the match started at 11:00 PM EAT.

Man City had 38 points, the same as Newcastle, while Chelsea had 37 points from 10 wins, five draws and four losses since the season began.

With their 11th win, Enzo Maresca’s team now sits in fourth place with 40 points, pushing Pep Guardiola’s City down to fifth. Manchester City, who remain ahead of Newcastle on goal difference, defeated Ipswich Town 6-0 over the weekend, though they have struggled recently. Newcastle, on the other hand, suffered a 4-1 defeat to Bournemouth.

At the top of the table, Liverpool leads with 50 points after extending their lead by two points, thanks to their win over Brentford. Meanwhile, Arsenal, their closest title rivals, drew 2-2 with Aston Villa.

Here are the top 10 Premier League teams right now:

1. Liverpool (50 points)
2. Arsenal (44 points)
3. Nottingham Forest (44 points)
4. Chelsea (40 points)
5. Manchester City (38 points)
6. Newcastle United (38 points)
7. AFC Bournemouth (37 points)
8. Aston Villa (36 points)
9. Brighton (34 points)

Liverpool will play Ipswich Town on Saturday, the same day Arsenal will face Wolves, and Nottingham Forest will play Bournemouth. The Blues will clash with Man City, also on that 25th January, in probably the biggest game of the coming weekend.

For your information, Manchester United is in 13th place with 26 points. It seems small teams rarely get much attention!
