Xiaomi has unveiled a striking new colour variant for its Poco X8 Pro smartphone in an effort to breathe fresh life into the mid-range device and recapture consumer attention.

The Chinese electronics giant on Monday introduced a “Bold Yellow” finish for the Poco X8 Pro, a performance-oriented handset that blends aggressive styling with competitive specifications.

The new Bold Yellow finish draws inspiration from the racetrack, featuring dynamic stripes and a black accent around the frame – a relatively uncommon design flourish that gives the phone a sporty, premium edge in official imagery.

The rear panel adopts a more industrial aesthetic, complete with visible bolt details and a semi-transparent effect that hints at the device’s internal components.

Xiaomi’s signature Dynamic RGB LED lighting system around the camera module remains in place, though it is not prominently displayed in initial promotional materials.

The colour refresh arrives as Xiaomi seeks to extend the shelf life of its mid-tier offerings amid intensifying competition in the global smartphone market, particularly from rivals such as Samsung Electronics Co. and Transsion Holdings in emerging markets where value-for-money devices dominate sales.

The Bold Yellow option joins the existing palette of Black, White and Mint Green, as well as the recently reviewed Iron Man Edition. However, availability is more limited than with the standard colours. It will be offered only in 8GB/256GB, 8GB/512GB and 12GB/512GB configurations, skipping the 12GB/256GB variant available in the other colours.

Priced at $369 or about Ksh50,000 at launch, the new edition sits slightly above the original March launch price of $330 for the Poco X8 Pro, reflecting the appeal of the distinctive new design.
