NSE turnover sheds Sh76 million

Market turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) retreated to Ksh454 million, down from Ksh530 million posted in the previous session.

Despite the Ksh76 million drop, stocks traded at the bourse on Wednesday jumped from 14.5 million on Tuesday to end Wednesday’s closing bell at a total of 16.3 million shares.

The stock of big movers from yesterday, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), receded a further 5cents, settling at a share price of Ksh44.90. The lender’s market activity was valued at Ksh33.5 million on the back of transacting 747,000 shares.

KCB had moved 6.9 million shares yesterday, ending the day as the bourse’s biggest mover for the second trading session in a row.

Regular big hitters Safaricom regained its position atop the day’s biggest movers, transacting 8 million stocks at a share price of Ksh28.

Doubling its volumes from the previous NSE session, the giant telco’s market activity was valued at Ksh225 million, representing 49.65% of the day’s traded value.

The Bond Market meanwhile had bonds worth Ksh3.5 billion transacted.

NSE Indices

At the indices counter, the NSE All Share Index (NASI) ticked upwards, gaining 0.24 points to stand at 158.89.

The NSE 20 share Index picked up 8.03 points to stand at 2873.63, leaving the NSE 25 Share Index as the only counter to end the day in the red zone.

Down 0.92 points, the NSE 25 Share Index stood at at 3963.03.
