Nokia 7 Plus crowned best consumer smartphone in global awards

The Nokia 7 Plus has been selected as the Consumer Smartphone of the Year by the Expert Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), HMD Global has announced.

HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas said the recognition shows that the Nokia maker is proving that it is possible to deliver world-class style and substance in one powerful device.

“The Nokia 7 plus was designed to deliver everything we stand for as a company so we are absolutely thrilled to see that it resonates with industry experts,” he said.

According to HMD Global, the phone’s major features include a 2-day battery life, innovative optical hardware and imaging algorithms that allows for optimised photos and unique photo taking experience. The smartphone also features curved back and slim edges as well as a big screen to maximise on the experience of browsing, social media consumption, gaming and entertainment.

HMD Global says the Nokia 7 plus is part of Google’s Android One programme and it retails at Ksh46,000.

The Nokia 7 Plus is among a variety of products that will receive an EISA Award 2018-2019 during the IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) in Berlin. The IFA is the world’s largest consumer electronics fair and will be held from August 31 to September 5 in the German city.

Other awards set to be handed out include recognition in various other categories such as Hi-Fi, home theatre audio, in-car electronics, home theatre display and video and photography alongside the mobile devices category.

The awards are courtesy of EISA which is a global panel consisting of 54 specialist magazines drawn from Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. It began in 1982 when the editors-in-chief from five European photo magazines came together to select “The Camera of the Year”.
