Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Moses Kuria has announced that he will be vying for president in 2022.

The outspoken MP who spoke during the HOT breakfast show on Monday morning confirmed he will be in the ballot with Deputy President Dr William Ruto, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana his preferred running mates.

DP Ruto however cannot cannot vie again as running mate as the constitution bars him from doing so.

Kuria had first hinted that he will vie for the country’s top seat on September 23, 2018 during an interview with Milele FM when he asked DP Ruto to support his bid, lately he has indicated that he will lead a mass walkout of Mt Kenya leaders from the ruling Jubilee Party to former president Mwai Kibaki’s Democratic Party(DP).

“I will be vying for president in 2022. I am considering the Deputy President, Raila and Kibwana as possible running mates. If I vie against Ruto I will beat him but I will offer him a position in my government, said Kuria.

DP National Chairman Esau Kioni was on February 25 quoted by The Nation as having welcomed Kuria to the party but warned the Gatundu legislator that he would lose his parliamentary seat if he ditches Jubilee officially.

The MP had for a period taken President Kenyatta head on over development projects in the Mt Kenya region. Kuria accused the president of neglecting his political bastion and favouring other regions. The jibe won him political mileage and it remains to be seen whether he will use that as a launchpad for his State House stab.

President Kenyatta would later dismiss Kuria and Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri as ‘washenzi’ which loosely translates to fools over the development jibe saying that he has a responsibility to treat all regions in the country equally regardless of their voting patterns.

Kuria’s war with the president later ended when he claimed that his life was in danger over the tirade.

Kuria’s entry into the 2022 matrix is likely to complicate Dr Ruto’s bid who has until recently been campaigning to lock the Mt Kenya vote block.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ally David Murathe while pledging support for Raila and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has already announced that he will block Ruto from ascending to power in 2022.
