Mabati Rolling Mills Donates Unique Gift To Nairobi City County

The books aimed at promoting the use of Kiswahili language among Nairobians

Mabati Rolling Mills (MRM), a leading manufacturer of building solutions and a member of the Safal Group, has donated 400 Kiswahili books to Nairobi City County’s Skills, Talent, and Care Sector – or the Library Section.

The regional initiative, done through through the Safal MRM Foundation, aims to promote the use of Kiswahili language among Kenyans and strengthen the cultural connection with the linguistic heritage of Kenya.

Kiswahili, one of the official languages of Kenya, plays a vital role in fostering unity and communication among diverse communities in East Africa. By donating these books, the Foundation aims to support the development of literacy skills, inspire a love for reading, and create a deeper understanding of the language’s cultural significance.

The donation comprises winning books of the Safal Cornell Kiswahili Prize for African Literature. The prize was founded in 2014 to recognize and promote reading and writing in Kiswahili.

This year, the award ceremony will be held in Nairobi. These resources will be available to the public at the library, ensuring easy access for individuals who wish to enhance their Kiswahili language skills or explore Kiswahili literature and culture.

In addition, the Safal MRM Foundation plans to collaborate with Nairobi City County’s Skills, Talent, and Care Sector – Library Section in organizing workshops and events that promote the use of Kiswahili language.

“We are delighted to contribute to the promotion of Kiswahili language and literature in Nairobi,” said Mr Julius Ochieng, HR Manager, Mabati Rolling Mills.  “By donating these books, we hope to empower individuals with the tools and knowledge to appreciate the beauty and significance of Kiswahili.

Mr Ochieng said a strong grasp of the national language would enhance cultural identity, foster inclusive communities, and contribute to the overall development of society. The donation is part of MRM’s ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts to support the communities in which it operates and make a positive impact on society.
