It was a mix performance at Anfied stadium as Liverpool knocked out Chelsea on penalties to book their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Chelsea scored the first goal, but their celebrations were cut short just three minutes later when Fofana handled the ball inside the area.

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring for Blues by converting a penalty in the 40th minute after Ryan Gravenberch fouled Moises Caicedo.

Liverpool responded in just three minutes when Cody Gakpo scored an equalizer from the penalty spot following a handball by Wesley Fofana. Gakpo stepped up, sending Penders the wrong way to net his 11th goal of the tournament.

The drama intensified before the break when Alonso was forced into an injury substitution, replacing center-back Maxence Lacroix with Levi Colwill.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw in regulation before Liverpool ultimately won 6–5 in a penalty shootout.

This means Liverpool will play Bournemouth during the week commencing December 14, 2026, with the exact match expected to take place either on Tuesday, December 15 or Wednesday, December 16, 2026) at Anfield.
