List of Top KCSE Performers: Murang’a High Student Best Of Them All

Top KCSE Performers: Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha today released the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, announcing the top 15  candidates.

The top candidate in the 2020 KCSE is Robinson Wanjala Simiyu from Murang’a High School, who scored an A of 87.334, followed by Allan Wasonga  (87.173) from Agoro Sare High School.

Notably missing in the top candidates list are Starehe Boys, Alliance Girls, Precious Blood, Friends School Kamusinga, Mang’u Boys, Lenana School and Nairobi School, among other top performers.

Prof. Magoha made the announcement on Monday, while releasing results of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams. The minister noted that out of the top 15 candidates, five were from Kenya High School. Kapsabet Boys which produced the best candidate came in at number 12.

Magoha said 287 individuals have had their results cancelled, 211 had unauthorized materials including writing on white shirts. Some 45 mobile phones confiscated.

Magoha said that 893 students scored As in the 2020 exam, compared to 627 recorded in 2019. The CS also said that Turkana county had the highest number of overage candidates.

Bungoma had the highest number of underage candidates. Underage candidates are those aged 16 years and below. Those who scored C+ and above were just over 143,000.

Magoha passed a message of hope to all candidates who sat the 2020 KCSE exam. While releasing the results on Monday, Magoha noted that all candidates have potential to succeed in life.

“We believe that there is no insignificant child and we must not leave any learner behind,” the CS said. “All candidates have a place in our education story.”

Candidates can check their results by sending their KCSE index number via the SMS number 20076.

Last week, the marking of the exam ended with some examiners staging protests over their dues.

A total of 747,161 candidates sat for the examinations at 10,565 centres across the country, according to Dr Mercy Karogo, the acting chief executive officer of the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec).

Some 752,891 candidates registered for the KCSE exam but 5,730 of them missed the tests.
