KTN is set to premiere Socialites, a new show in the mould of K24’s Nairobi Diaries in what looks like the station’s desire to tap into the growing demand for entertainment shows by the youth.

Through its social media pages, KTN has announced that the show premieres 10:00pm on Wednesday.

Socialites just like it’s name, features a number of female actors with a predictable craving for the high-life and will do just about anything for popularity.

The concept is borrowed from American reality show Love and Hiphop and is likely to rival K24 hit show Nairobi Diaries which is an audience magnet.

However what’s different about Socialites is that it is an imaginative show and revolves around interesting scenarios regarding the socialites’ private lives.

For instance, episode one features Tina’s predicament (one of the socialites) when her sponsor (lingo for an older fiancé who is married to another person) dies and is suddenly starved of access to the money she had been accustomed to.

The launch of the show is already generating debate online with sections of users arguing that KTN’s latest addition compounds on the decay of the country’s moral fabric on national television.

Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua is on record saying that film/broadcast content is being used to corrupt the morals of young Kenyans.

A number of the country’s most popular personalities are socialites who worked their way to fame by boldly showcasing their private lives to the public which rubs the older generation the wrong way.

Others can’t wait for the show to premiere saying that such shows are long overdue.
