KPLC: Planned Power Interruptions in 7 Counties Today

These planned interruptions were announced a few hours before a reported nationwide blackout

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced the areas that will experience planned power interruptions today, Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

In a notice posted on Tuesday evening, the state-owned utility, which transmits, distributes, and retails electricity to customers throughout the country, indicated that seven counties in total would be affected by the upcoming scheduled maintenance outages as its technicians conduct repairs and upgrades on local electric distribution systems to provide safe and reliable service.

The seven counties are Nairobi, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Nandi, Kakamega, Isiolo, and Bomet. Specifically, the following areas in the mentioned counties will experience temporary blackouts at diverse times between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM today, as listed by KPLC:

1. In Nairobi County;
Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

* Mutuini Primary School, Mutuini Police Station, Manyatta Road, Saigoin, Beth Mugo Secondary School, Kabiria Road Primary School, Kivuli Centre, Riruta Primary School, Riruta Police Station, Kabete Vet Lab, Mutindwa, Uthiru, Uchumi Road, Mfuli Road, Mleto Road, Kaisungura Road, and parts of Ole Shapara Road.

2. In Nyeri County;
Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

* Nyeri Baptist, Kirimara, Gamerock, Seremwai, Good Wood, Kimathi Water Pump, and Mt Kenya Academy.

3. In Tharaka Nithi;
Time: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM

* Kangutu, Kaanwa, Chuka Vocational, Mwanjali and Mbiru and all its adjacent customers.

4. In Nandi County;
Time: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

* Kapcheribisi, Corner, Kilibwoni Factory, and Tendwet.

5. In Kakamega County;
Time: 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM

* Musanda, Lureko, Buriya, Shitukumi, and adjacent customers.

6. In Isiolo County;
Time: 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM

* Mwangaza Water Supply, Airport, Kandebe Market, 78 Tank Battalion, Kambi Sharrif, Osman Ndima, Ntulele Primary School, and Kisima Borehole.

7. In Bomet County;
Time: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

* Brevan Hotel, Korokwoy Millers, Bomet Public Works, Burgei, Bomet Fire Station, and parts of Bomet Town.

These planned interruptions were announced a few hours before a reported nationwide blackout, which occurred between midnight and 5:00 AM. This blackout affected many parts of the country, including all of Uasin Gishu and Nyeri counties.
