KPL weekend action: Mathare looking to extend unbeaten run

Five Matchday 8 fixtures will be played this weekend with three matches on Saturday and the rest on Sunday. The league has proved to be competitive with the top three teams; Bandari, Mathare United and Kariobangi Sharks yet to lose a much.

Mathare United will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run and possibly win against Kakamega Homeboyz after their rivals Sharks dropped points in a one all draw away at Zoo Kericho. League leaders Bandari, who are also unbeaten, are giving Mathare a run for their money and have already won their eigth match 1-0 versus Posta Rangers. Mathare will jump back to first should they win against Homeboyz.

In another match of the action packed Saturday, Interim Sofapaka manager John Baraza will be looking to make an impact as Batoto ba Mungu clash with Sony Sugar at Kenyatta Stadium. The former Sofapaka skipper took over the team after Egyptian-American coach Melus Medo resigned from the position. 8th placed Sony Sugar will be hoping to get back to winning ways after a 2-1 defeat to Ulinzi Stars in their last fixtures.

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) will face off Vihiga United at Kenyatta stadium before the Sofapaka versus Sony Sugar match in a bottom of the table affair. The two teams are only separated by 2 points and KCB will be working to get out of the relegation zone while Vihiga are trying to avoid it.

Sunday will see 6th placed Tusker lock horns with Ulinzi Stars who will be looking for their secnd consecutive win after managing a narrow 2-1 victory against Sony Sugar. The 2010 KPL champions have been struggling this season managing only two wins in seven matches. The brewers on the other hand have bagged 4 wins out of seven and are favourites in the match to collect all 3 points.

Nzoia Sugar will be visitors to Western Stima at the Moi Stadium in what is expected to be a very tight match. Both teams have been in great form with Westen Stima having bagged 4 wins, 2 draws and a loss. Nzoia on the other hand are 9th on the table, 5 places behind Western Stima, with 2 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses.

Nzoia, however, have been showing potential as they beat an experienced Ulinzi side and managed a draw against the unbeaten Sharks.
