Kenya Open gets another boost as Coca-Cola pumps in Sh5.6 million

Coca-Cola has joined the list of sponsors in the 2019 Magical Kenya Open golf tournament that is slated between 14th and 17th March. The beverage producers have signed a sponsorship that will see them inject Ksh. 5.6 million in the international tournament to be held at the Karen Country Club.

Coca-Cola Franchise Brand Manager Rodney Nzioka said that the partnership with KOGL would develop golf and promote Kenya as a reputable destination for sports tourism.

“We are keen to continue our support and partnership with the KOG Limited as we also market the country’s ability to host bigger international events following the elevation of Kenya Open from the Challenge Tour to elite European Tour,” Nzioka said at a press briefing in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Apart from the cash sponsorship of Ksh 5.6 million, coca cola has made a pledge to continue supporting the tournament by ensuring that the golfers as well as hundreds of golf fans attending enjoy free water from Keringet.

Nzioka also noted that the company has engaged in developing Sports locally with their support to youth football in the country through the Copa Coca-Cola flagship tournament.

Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) chairman Peter Kanyago acknowledged the Coca-Cola company for sponsoring the tournament and being in partnership with them for the past seven years.

“We are delighted in working together as we grow the stature of this tournament. Our partnership with Coca-Cola has been long and beneficial ensuring that we host a world-class tournament and look forward to a more fruitful engagement as we continue growing the profile of KOGL,” he said.

The tournament has received a major boost recently with local and international companies pumping in cash that will help in making it a success. The government and Absa group limited (operating in Kenya as Barclays bank) leading the forefront of sponsors with donations of Ksh. 253 million and Ksh. 220 million respectively.

Apart from Coca-cola, Absa Group Limited, and The Government, other sponsors of the event include; Kenya Breweries, Hemmingway’s Nairobi, Wilken Group, Copycat, AAR, Nation Media Group, DStv and Meridian Group.
