Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is feeling the heat from his Ukambani political bastion with senior political leaders in the region continuing to ask the region’s de-facto kingpin to withdraw the remarks which they say have demeaned the community.
Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana who doubles up as Wiper Party chairperson has for the second time come out all guns blazing and told off his party leader who in his opinion erred saying that was a political blunder which could be interpreted as him slowing down on his 2022 presidential ambitions.
“Supporters on the ground feel let down by the remarks and that is an indication that he is taking his foot off the gas in the 2022 presidential race. We have refused to be branded errand boys because he is our leader and he ought to exude the confidence of the whole community,” said Kibwana.
According to the chairman, Kalonzo’s decision to support the government was him listening to the voice of the Kamba people who have been pleading with him to join government since 2017 but that should not be a reason for him to play second fiddle.
This comes three days after firebrand politician, former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama also called out Kalonzo.
“You should explain to Kenyans and your supporters what you really meant when you said that you have resigned to being President Uhuru Kenyatta’s errand boy so that they can chart the way forward,” said Muthama on November 12.

Kibwana in a statement to newsrooms on the same day faulted his boss over lack of consultations before making the public pronouncement.
“When the leader of the people becomes an errand boy, what becomes of the followers who elevated him to the negotiating table?” posed Kibwana.
President Kenyatta appointed Kalonzo as head of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission on peace in South Sudan, JMEC, he is a special envoy tasked with monitoring the peace process in South Sudan.

Kalonzo made the errand boy remark during the burial of his father Musyoka Mairu on November 9.
“Henceforth, I shall be doing the dirty work for President Uhuru Kenyatta. I prefer not to be asked any questions regarding that decision and if you do you will realise that I am as stubborn as my late father,” said the former Vice President.
