Senator Gloria Orwoba is pressing for an urgent investigation after Adelle Omondi, a Nairobi woman, alleged she was drugged and robbed while travelling on a Mash Poa bus on April 14, 2025.

In a letter dated April 21 to Mash East Africa Ltd, the operator of Mash Poa, the nominated senator, known to be a vocal advocate for women’s rights, demanded accountability following Adelle’s disturbing social media post.

On Facebook, Adelle claimed that during her recent Nairobi-to-Mombasa trip on their bus, a fellow passenger offered her a drink, after which she awoke in a hospital, missing her phone, cash, and valuables. She suspects she was drugged, sparking widespread outrage and raising questions about the bus company’s safety measures.

“This incident represents a severe breach of passenger safety,” Orwoba stated. “I urge Mash Poa to provide a detailed incident report, including actions taken by staff and management, to address this violation and prevent future occurrences.”

The report is essential, Orwoba emphasized, to support the victim and strengthen passenger safety protocols.

By the time this was published, Mash Poa had not yet responded publicly to the claims. Adelle’s story, however, has been shared widely by many Kenyans, some of whom have shared similar experiences.

As she is recovering, she has expressed gratitude for the public’s support. “I just want justice,” she wrote in a follow-up post. “No one else should go through this.”
