At Jumia love is already in the air.
The leading online retailer has organised what it promises to be the world’s largest speed dating event in Kenya. In a country with more single men and woman than married couples, the event is expected to attract huge crowd, including even the not so single!
Jumia will be hosting the event on February 9 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) targeting more than 1500 singles aged between 21-45 years ahead of this year’s Valentine’s Day.
“During Valentine’s day, many Kenyans show love for their nearest and dearest. This year we will be going a step further by not only helping you find the perfect gift for your date, but also help you find your date too” said Jumia Kenya MD Sam Chappatte in a statement.
The event will form part of Jumia’s Valentines Campaign which will run from February 4 to February 14 through which Jumia capitalises on the campaign to boost its business.
Jumia has couched the campaign as the perfect opportunity for singles to find their perfect match one on one as opposed to traditional blind dates at social places like clubs.
Tickets will be available at the E-commerce platform from February 4 to February 10 at 9am and will be selling at Ksh1.
Jumia is trying to break the current record for the largest speed dating event that consisted of 651 participants that was achieved by Calgary Speed Dating Inc.in Canada, on February 14, 2014.
Singles will gather at the venue and will each get a name card and a log book. Each individual will have 20 dates and each date is expected to last 3 minutes, with a bell denoting the end of a date, and a rotation of speed dates to the next person.
The company will facilitate the entire event.
“Jumia will facilitate and host the whole event so you are guaranteed to meet everyone present in a safe and fun way. There will also be a red carpet photo booth where you can take photos,” reads the statement.
