Jubilee Insurance, in partnership with the Grand Nairobi Bike Race (GNBR), has officially launched the 2025 edition of the Jubilee Live Free Race, a premier cycling event set to attract thousands of participants from across the globe.
In a press statement released on Thursday, August 14, 2025, the race will take place on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Nyayo Stadium and is expected to bring together more than 3,500 cyclists representing over 20 nationalities.
Jubilee Insurance remains the title sponsor, committing Ksh 20 million towards the event. This contribution pushes the company’s total investment in the race to more than Ksh 100 million since 2022, including both cash and in-kind support.
Since its inception in 2021, the Jubilee Live Free Race has evolved into one of the most significant cycling events in the country. It provides a competitive platform for athletes while also promoting physical activity, holistic wellbeing, and environmental conservation.
The 2025 edition will also shine a spotlight on physical mobility for children and environmental protection. According to the National Association of Orthopaedic Technologists, between 700 and 800 people lose a limb in Kenya each year, yet only one in four amputees have access to a prosthetic limb. With rising diabetes cases, the number of amputations is projected to grow, making support for affected individuals more crucial.
In addition, the event will promote environmental stewardship by planting kitchen gardens, food towers, and fruit trees, as well as restoring water towers in marginalised community schools. These initiatives aim to create healthier learning spaces, enhance food security, and benefit future generations.
Jubilee Insurance Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications Caroline Ndungu said the Jubilee Live Free Race had grown beyond a sporting activity to become a movement with lasting community impact.
“Over the last three years, we have seen the Jubilee Live Free Race grow in scale, diversity and impact, touching lives both on and off track. This event highlights the power of sport to unite people and drive transformative change in our community. Through this platform, we will keep creating awareness and opportunities that empower individuals to live healthier, fuller lives,” she said.
The race will feature different categories, including the Main Race (75 km), Black Mamba (45 km), Para Cycling (45 km), Family Fun Ride (15 km), and the Kiddie Race. Winners in the competitive categories will share Ksh 4 million in cash prizes, along with other rewards.
Grand Nairobi Bike Race Director Desmond Momanyi praised the event’s growth, noting it had transformed from a local initiative into an internationally recognised race.
“The Jubilee Live Free Race has grown from a local initiative to an event attracting participants from around the world. We are grateful for the continued patronage from our participants, partners, and communities, and remain committed to delivering a seamless, safe, and rewarding experience. Our strategic partnerships have been pivotal in elevating the race’s profile and advancing critical conversations on wellness, inclusivity, and environmental stewardship. Together, we are creating lasting impact on the issues that matter most to our communities,” he said.
He also acknowledged the role of key partners, such as the Kenya Cycling Federation, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority, and the Nairobi County Government, in promoting cycling in the region and ensuring the race remains safe, competitive, and enjoyable for all.
