The Board of Directors of Sarova Hotels, Resorts and Game Lodges has announced the appointment of Jimi Kariuki as the group’s Managing Director with immediate effect.
Kariuki takes over from the late Jaideep S. (JS) Vohra, who passed away in a road accident late last year.
He joined Sarova Hotels in 1992 as the Marketing Manager before taking over the role of the group’s Marketing and Sales Director in 1996. He is also currently a member of the Company’s Board of Directors.
“This is a very exciting challenge for me and I look forward to working closely with the Board of Directors and with our great team to continue with the delivery of our vision and of our promise to our Customers”, he said.
Kariuki holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from Huron University, South Dakota (USA), and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town (South Africa).

Board Chairman John Ngata Kariuki said: “Today we employ over 1,400 staff in our group. As we enter our 44th year in the hospitality industry in Kenya this year, this appointment ensures continuity and the stability of the business, following the tragic and untimely passing of Mr. Vohra”.
The new MD is also the current Chairman of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB).
Sarova is Kenya’s largest hospitality group. The chain includes Sarova Stanley, Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa, Sarova Mara Camp, Sarova Shaba Game Lodge, Sarova Lion HillGame Lodge and Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge.
