Citizen TV news anchor and political reporter Jacque Maribe has been granted access to her house in Royal Park Estate Lang’ata, Nairobi.

The journalist had filed an application seeking to have Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director George Kinoti cited for contempt and compelled to allow her access the house claiming that she had no access to her clothes and witness statements crucial in her case.

On Tuesday, State Prosecutor Catherine Mwaniki told the High Court that the journalist would be granted access to the house from today.

Ms. Mwaniki however said that the State will be holding on to Maribe’s Toyota Allion which was impounded in connection with businesswoman Monica Kimani’s murder case in which Maribe is an accused.

The State will also cling on to Maribe’s phone as the investigating officers continue to probe the case.

Maribe was freed on bail on October 30 with Justice James Waking ordering that the journalist be granted access to her house, orders which seem not to have been adhered to if the prosecution’s change in heart is anything to go by.

Her fiancé Joseph “Jowie” Irungu however was not released as the judge agreed with the prosecution that he is a flight risk and was likely to interfere with witnesses, while delivering his ruling, Justice Wakiaga described “Jowie” as a “woman eater”.

“The picture that emerges from the prosecution’s affidavit and the pre-bail report of the first accused person (Jowie) is that of a male version of a slay queen which for lack of better terminology, I shall call a woman eater” ruled Justice Wakiaga.

On November 21, “Jowie” through his lawyers filed an application seeking to have Justice Wakiaga recuse himself from the case citing bias over the “woman eater” remark.

However Jowie withdrew the application on November 27 while claiming that he was being tortured at Kamiti Maximum Prison where he has now been transferred to.
