Hackers have brought down The Standard website denying users access to news stories and videos.

Those trying to access the website, standardmedia.co.ke, are met with this message:

The site’s administrators have, however, begun to regain access. Cases of hacking targeting various sites and data bases, including those of government ministries and departments, banks, the Communication Authority and the Kenya Revenue Authority in the country have been on the rise.

Some of the attacks have been linked to international criminal syndicates.

The hacking of the website of a major media house is, however, troubling with the General Election less than two weeks away.
