The first-ever SportPesa Mega Jackpot (MJP) winner Samuel Abisai will make his grand homecoming at the BukhunguStadium in Kakamega tomorrow in a ceremony set to shake the Western Kenya capital.

Abisai, who won KSh221,301, 602 on the SportPesa platform, will be flown in for the celebration incorporating the region’s rich cultural heritage from 11am.

The win has put him among the richest Luhyas, in the league of big shots from the region like real estate mogul Ibrahim Ambwere, former vice-presidents Musalia Mudavadi and Moody Awori.

“It was his wish to share his moment with the people of Kakamega,” said SportPesa Global Marketing Officer, Joyce Kibe. “Having risen from a humble background, he is keen to give youth in the region hope they can achieve what they set their minds on.”

Abisai, 28, who was unveiled to the public on Tuesday by SportPesa CEO, Ronald Karauri, has been a topic of huge national and international interest following his windfall that came when he correctly predicted 17 out of 17 games in last week’s MJP.

“People of Kakamega must feel the effect of his win. He is talking of a sports academy,” Mr Karauri advised Abisai who is a huge fan of SportPesa Premier League club, Kakamega Homeboyz.

Among those expected at the fete include Elimah Khanaitsa, the first lady SportPesa jackpot winner who pocketed Ksh22,049,424 in January last year, dignitaries and renowned entertainment celebrities from Kakamega.

Abisai and some members of his family will land at Kakamega Airstrip before being driven to Bukhungu in convoy for the ceremony where community elders will play part.

Born into a family of 12, Abisai was forced to the streets early in life before being sponsored through school by Compassion International until he joined University of Nairobi to study Mandarin.

He completed his studies in China before being employed by a Chinese firm in Kenya on his return and was introduced to gaming by his younger brother last year.

The soft-spoken Abisai played last week’s MJP twice before he made history with his winning ticket.

Like all other big winners on their platform, SportPesa will stand by Abisai with the company putting a team of skilled financial and legal advisors at his disposal. “He should be worth more than KSh221 million in the next two or three years. I will make sure he spends his money well. SportPesa will walk with him,” Karauri assured.
