Sports punter Gordon Ogada is the winner of Ksh 230,742,881 SportPesa mega jackpot, which is the biggest ever in Kenya. According to the betting firm, Ogada correctly predicted the outcome of 17 football matches to win last week’s jackpot.

“Congratulations to everyone who tried out the #SportPesaMegaJackpot. A public draw held today to determine the outcome of the postponed Troyes vs Dijon match concluded in a HOME win: 1. Consequently, last weekend`s MJP winning prediction is: 2,1,2,2,1,2,1,X,1,2,1,2,2,1,X,1,1,” the company had announced early Tuesday causing excitement among football fans who place bets on matches being played worldwide.

“In accordance to terms and conditions, the company conducted a public draw to determine the outcome of this game and fully result the mega jackpot.” The Troyes vs Dijon match was resulted as a Home win (1).

“The amount has now been reset to Sh100,000,000,” SportsPesa said in a statement.

Ogada will be presented at a press conference Wednesday.

Before today’s win, Samuel Abisai was the biggest winner after bagging Ksh 221 million last year.

Despite SportsPesa having financial literacy programmes, past winners are said to have squandered their wins with some falling back into humble lives.

In Abisai’s case, his father once sensationally claimed he had neglected him leaving him to continue selling ropes at a market in Kakamega, which he denies.

There have also been reports he got himself a white girlfriend, bought a state-of-the-art Mercedes Benz and was generally living life with a big spoon.

While this may not be entirely true of the former tailor, the Consumer Federation of Kenya (Cofek) asked SportsPesa to do more to assist winners make viable investments with their winnings.

“MOST ADVISABLE for @SportPesa to prepare and counsel vulnerable winners of their mega jackpots on their impending cultural shocks. Opening them up too soon, especially to media, destroys them almost irreparably as victims of instant “success” #SportPesaMegaJackpot #RipoffKenya,” the lobby group tweeted following the announcement.

The Kenya Bus Management also advised him to consider investing in the transport industry.

“@SportPesa Congrats to the winner of #SportPesaMegaJackpot you’re welcome to invest in the transport industry with #KBS, your preferred option!,” tweeted KBS.
