Former Nation Media Group journalist Godffrey Olali has left state-owned Geothermal Development Company (GDC), where he worked in corporate communications and marketing.

Mr Olali who had worked at GDC for 10 years, after leaving NMG in 2009 where he was a reporter for Taifa Leo/Taifa Jumapili and Daily Nation newspapers, was the Section Head for GDC’s Media and Publications Section. He formally left on October 30 having served a month’s notice.

He is understood to be joining a water, energy and sanitation project jointly funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation.

Mr Olali, who won the 2003 Court Journalist of the Year Award from the Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ), will be joining the Ministry’s Project Implementation Team (PIT) as a Senior Communications Specialist. The project is based on the outskirts of Wote Town in Makueni County.

Having also worked as a Communication Expert for the African Development Bank (AfDB) funded-GDC’s Menengai Geothermal Project, Mr. Olali’s work is already cut-out as he will be in charge of project communication in his new assignment.

An award-winning journalist with over 13 years of experience in the newsroom and corporate communications practice, Mr. Olali has written extensively for local and international press in both English and Kiswahili.

At one time, he had a stint as a Nairobi bureau chief for the London Evening Post, associated with Ugandan political activist-cum-businessman David Nyekorach Matsanga. Mr Matsanga was known for his outrageous and vocal opposition to the Kenyan cases at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidate in Communication and Media Studies at Moi University, Mr. Olali also holds a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Nairobi’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
