Reports that Martha Koome was on January 17, 2023, admitted to the Kenyatta National Hospital are false.

The news was shared by a tabloid dubbed Kenya-today, which claimed that the Chief Justice was admitted to the Private Wing of the hospital. The tabloid reported that Koome fell ill on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

The Kenyan Judiciary, through its respective Twitter and Facebook pages, flagged the news as fake.

On January 17, the date on which the tabloid reports that Koome fell ill, the chief justice attended several events, and there were no reports that she was ill.

Justice Koome attended a memorial service of the late John Momanyi Change at the Holy Family Basilica on January 17 and even shared it on Twitter.

“Condoling with the family of John Momanyi Change, during his memorial service at the Holy Family Basilica. Momanyi built an admirable repertoire of dependability, professionalism and earned diplomatic skills as he served in Judiciary’s Protocol Dept. May his Soul Rest in Peace,” Koome wrote on Twitter.

On the same day, Justice Koome attended an event organised by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators where she launched a new state-of-the-art Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, and also shared the news on Twitter.

“The move by @CIArbKenya to a new state-of-the-art Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, is testimony to the fact that the Institute is growing in vibrancy and is well positioned as a centre of excellence in arbitration and mediation processes,” she wrote.

Reports that Chief Justice Martha Koome was admitted to the Kenyatta National Hospital are therefore false.
