Exploring Kidero’s Luxury Apartments Worth Billions

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has been in the headlines this week, rallying leaders from the Nyanza region to join the President William Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Details of several of his properties have emerged over the course of his long-running legal battle with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which has been keen on seizing them over alleged corruption during his time in charge of the capital.

The properties include residential homes as well as high-end luxury apartments in Nairobi’s swankiest neighborhoods, worth several billions of shillings. According to the EACC, the former Governor was worth over Ksh9 billion in 2018.

Here, Business Today explores some of the luxury apartments in Nairobi owned by the former Governor.

Gemsuites Apartments

Located along State House Crescent Road, Gemsuites Apartments features blocks of fully serviced 1 and 2 bedroom luxury apartments and hotel rooms. This, in addition to dining, fitness, wellness and conferencing facilities.

It targets VIPs and offers executive relocation services and chauffeured car services as well as VIP airport meet and assist services.

Muthaiga Heights

Muthaiga Heights is located in the upmarket Muthaiga neighborhood in Nairobi. The apartments include three blocks of  luxurious three-bedroom apartments. Each apartment includes two balconies with views of the city.

The apartment also includes fitness and recreation facilities, restaurants and a convenience store.

Gem Apartments Rose Avenue

Kidero is the owner of fully furnished and serviced Gem Apartments, located along Rose Avenue in Kilimani. The Kilimani neighborhood has over the past decade become a hub for upmarket residential and commercial properties thanks to a burgeoning middle class in the are.

Gem Apartments Gigiri

Gem Apartments in Gigiri are also owned by Kidero. The luxury apartments are located in the diplomatic hub, near United Nations offices and several embassies. Gigiri is also home to many expatriates who live and work in Kenya.

Riara Road Rental Units

Kidero owns 50 rental units along Riara Road. EACC valued them at Ksh1 billion in 2018.

Yala Towers

Yala Towers is a mixed use development located along Biashara Street in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD). The commercial property features restaurants, offices and retail centers in the heart of the city.
