Portable solar powered products for domestic lighting, entertainment, education, device charging and safety including mosquito protection will be launched this month by leading energy and water solutions provider, Davis & Shirtliff (D&S).
Positioned under the company’s Africa-centric Dayliff brand; the Sunlite range will be made available through the D&S network of 60 branches in the region and will be supported with spares, warranty and sizing expertise from the company’s headquarters in Nairobi’s industrial area.
Taking advantage of Kenya’s geographic location and suitability to harness the renewable free source of solar energy, the range of products will be powered by a source that is totally inexhaustible and sustainable.
The Dayliff Sunlite range of lanterns, security lights and reading lights start from as little as Ksh 680 with warranty. Highlights of the range include the Sunlite R5 which is a reading light capable of providing up to three hours on high brightness and six hours low brightness mode whereas the Sunlite T5 is a larger table light with the same capacity at Ksh 850.
The severe health risks of mosquitoes are well-known throughout the country, and a solar lantern, which innovatively doubles as a mosquito repellent and includes a lamp and phone charger, with a solar panel retails for Ksh 3,800. The panel recharges the device thus eliminating the need for sprays and one-time use mosquito tablets.
Ideal for homes in counties that are remote and off-grid is the SunSystem range, which incorporates a solar panel with a selection of batteries and lights. Prices start from Ksh 3,200 to Ksh 7,800 per unit depending on size. Each SunSystem energy kit includes mobile charging facilities and extra light bulbs.

Speaking to the company sales team at a product unveiling, Davis & Shirtliff’s Technical Director, Philip Holi said: “Solar products are very affordable today, with the recent advance in technology and the falling prices of solar modules. No one need remain in the dark anymore.”
The Dayliff brand has over 1,000 products for water and solar solutions, and will be rolling out other new products in the coming months. The Sunlite Sun Kits will be available from the company’s branches and stockists from next month.
